Betwixt ‘n’ Between, a Northern Colorado-based band, had its beginnings in the summer of ‘03 while attending a bluegrass festival. Band member, Ray Metzler, entered a song-writing competition and asked a couple of friends, Larisa Miller and Vicki Brawner, to help with the performance of a brand-spankin'-newly written song before the festival audience. Needing a band name, they came up with “Betwixt ‘n’ Between” (quite literally on the walk to the stage area) a good description of what became the band’s style; a little of this and a little of that! Following that very first performance, they were invited to return to be on the actual playbill for the following year’s festival. This "break" basically started the band and opened doors leading to many more venues.
The band's early days looked much different than it does today. Dave Miller, Rod Steffen and Justin Powell helped out. Justin stayed with the band for a good spell adding hand precussion(!) for a very "non bluegrass" sound. Bluegrass with congas?! That's Betwixt 'n' Between! Settling in to a 3 member band (with occassional help from Tim Brawner), they enjoyed a full two years of creating music together. That is, until both Larisa and Vicki moved out of the area.
Fast-forward to the summer/fall of ‘08 when Vicki, Tim and family moved back to Colorado. The band started up again, returning to the stage with Tim joining them until circumstances interupted their schedule during the summer of '09.
Currently (2012) they are in the process of "regrouping" (and it's going really well!). New member, Dustin, is adding fresh energy to the band, Vic and Ray are sure happy to be creating B & B again. Excitement abounds for the open doors that being out and about bring.
Betwixt ‘n’ Between brings a unique sound to the bluegrass/gospel arena; with a variety of instruments and tight harmony vocals, adding a touch of Celtic, Blues and Country. You can expect to hear a gospel message in their mostly original music, with a few story and love songs added in for flavor.
Ray Metzler - Leads the band, playing guitar, banjo, mountain dulcimer, (even messed with a[n] ukulele); singing lead and harmony vocals. Ray writes the majority of the music for the band.
Vicki Brawner - Plays upright bass, penny whistle, fiddle, and mandolin; singing harmony and lead vocals.
Dustin Heppner - Mandolin, guitar, upright bass and harmony vocals.
(Tim Brawner - Mandolin, dobro, guitar and upright bass.)
